Apparently I'm a finalist in the Redshirts art...
So, I haven’t updated my creative projects section in quite a while. But that doesn’t mean I haven’t been working on creative projects. I’ve just been working on things that I can’t yet record. Some commission art pieces, some writing, oh, and an art contest for John Scalzi’s upcoming novel Redshirts, where - APPARENTLY - I am a finalist.
I don’t expect...

– Nick Hanauer speaks an uncomfortable truth, and it’s something many of us in the middle class have screamed about over the years. But we’re drowned out by the voices of our very own politicians and the wealthy upper-class businessmen who fund their campaigns and line their pocketbooks....

Now, just to clarify, I’m no Apple hater. I don’t have the trademark intensely-burning dislike towards the company that my fellow Windows and/or Android-centric acolytes seem to share. But I’m not a fan of their closed nature, and I promised myself long ago that anytime I was given the option, I would always work to choose the one that provides me greater control over my...

The terribly good advice from the terrible mind of... →
If you have a notion to be a writer and you’re not reading Chuck Wendig’s blog, TERRIBLE MINDS, you are completely missing out on some excellent free advice on storytelling, story construction, audience manipulation, and general writerly need-to-know’s.
Case in point: today’s post on 25 things you should know about creating mystery. Genius stuff, friends. Hilarious,...

Why do I even bother to pretend I know how to play...
So, should I be annoyed or proud that my son has beaten Super Mario Galaxy 2 before me?
I watch him fly through the end levels with the ease of a practiced expert. Gliding over obstacles, jumping and careening through danger with no more care or consideration than a buzzing bee floating lazily through a field of flowers. He’s masterful in his precision, moving with grace and confidence. A...

Tomorrow is Xenoblade Chronicles day!
Which for most people will result in something resembling the following:
Pick up Xenoblade Chronicles
Go home and play Xenoblade Chronicles
But, unfortunately, for ME at least, the process will actually look something more like this:
Pick up Xenoblade Chronicles
Work the rest of the day (periodically flipping through the art book, of course)
Go out to dinner with the wife
Bed (I’ve...

I cannot WAIT to play Xenoblade Chronicles →
I was already seriously excited for this game, and then I read this Siliconera review, and my excitement was compounded by at least double, if not more. I haven’t looked forward to a game this much since…I can’t recall when.
Friday cannot come soon enough.

– Neil Gaiman makes a living saying excellent things in excellent ways. This is just the latest example of his advice that I will attempt to take to heart in an effort to finally become a published author.

Okay, time to get caught up on creative projects
Are you ready? Here we go.
I’ve got three new drawings I’ve worked on over the past week.
I did a drawing of my boys playing video games. This was one where I spent a significant amount of time working on getting a style to play out organically. I love how lanky Caleb (on the left) looks. He doesn’t really look like that while playing, but the characterization of him looks...

Two more of my domains going away
Just shut off auto-renew on two more domains of mine that are coming up for renewal within the next couple of months: nerdflood.com and nerdshelf.com.
The slash-and-burn clearing of my internet house continues.
And the dude abides.

An addendum: RE: itsdangeroustogoalone.com
In my haste to inform people that yes, I no longer own itsdangeroustogoalone.com, and yes, I’m aware it’s now controlled by a spammer WHY DOES THAT SURPRISE YOU, I completely forgot that I still control the Feedburner feed for the URL, which is apparently still subscribed to by roughly 40 people.
So, I redirected the content of the feed from the old URL to my new blog RSS feed, LIKE A...

It is no longer mine. I...

Novel update
I’ve mentioned before that my 9-year-old son and I are working on a fantasy novel together, aimed at his age range. I’ve just finished chapter two last night, clocking in at around 3,000 words at the moment. We’ve planned out 40 chapters, so at an average of 1,500 words per chapter, we could be looking at a 50k+ novel, which is a bit longer than I had intended (and some chapters...

"The Endermen", a Minecraft poem
Lest anyone think that this is nothing more than an art blog, for my week five creative project, I’m submitting this little poem, based on the 1.8 update to Minecraft, which introduced us all to the terrifying Endermen. I had started writing it then, while on a plane on one of the many overseas business trips I took in 2011. Since I’ve hardly been able to squeeze in any drawing time...

Things for 2012 That Sound Suspiciously Like...
NOT resolutions. Really.
They’re numbered, but they’re not necessarily in any particular order, so I guess I could have just not numbered them, but then it would have been harder for me to figure out how many I had written.
Onward and upward.
1. One new creative project every week, either artwork of some sort(illustration, sketch, painting, sculpting, etc.) or writing. No websites...
